Rules Agreement and Grading Policy


Please read and discuss the rules agreement and grading policy with your child.

Rules Agreement
                       
  1. I understand that NO JEWELRY IS TO BE WORN AT ANY TIME “NO EXCEPTIONS.”
  2. I understand that proper PE attire is uniform shorts and/or athletic pants, shirt and/or sweatshirt and sneakers.  Sneakers must be tied properly.  Warm clothes should be brought to class for cooler days.
  3. I understand I will be required to take written tests and may be required to complete written homework assignments.
  4. I understand I may be excused from no more than ONE class for medical reasons when I present a note from my parent/guardian.
  5. I understand a doctor’s medical excuse is required if I will miss more than ONE PE class.  A release from the doctor is required before participation in class can resume.
  6. I understand that I will be required to complete written work for excused absences lasting 4 or more days. 
  7. I UNDERSTAND I AM EXPECTED TO FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES AND CONDUCT MYSELF IN A SAFE MANNER AT ALL TIMES.  I WILL RESPECT SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS, THE EQUIPMENT AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I WILL RESPECT MYSELF IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS.


Grading Policy


Daily Participation Grade         80%

            Students’ daily participation grade is based on a 0 – 4 point rubric, with 4 being the highest.   The information below explains the 0 – 4 grading scale.  Achieving a 4 daily should be very attainable!

4 – Student responds quickly to directions, gives 100% at all times, works to or above potential, initiates play, shows respect for teacher, equipment, rules and others, shows good sportsmanship at all times, helps others, is cooperative and attentive, demonstrates proper behavior in the gym and does not fool around during class.

3- Student responds to directions, gives 100% most of the time, works to potential, shows respect for teacher, equipment, rules and others most of the time, shows good sportsmanship most of the time, is cooperative and attentive, demonstrates proper behavior in the gym most of the time and does not fool around during class most of the time.

2 – Student responds slowly to directions, does not give 100%, is uncooperative, does not work to potential, shows good sportsmanship sometimes, is disruptive, demonstrates inappropriate behavior in gym, occasionally disrespects teacher, equipment, rules and others, and occasionally creates unsafe environment.

1-  Student needs constant attention, behaviors in gym and locker room are below average, takes time with directions, fools around in gym, initiates trouble, is disrespectful to teacher, equipment, rules, and others, is uncooperative, only tries sometimes, and creates unsafe environment.

0- Student is not prepared, constantly fools around, disrespectful to teacher, equipment, rules, and others, creates unsafe environment, and demonstrates overall inappropriate behavior.


Tests & Homework         15%

            There will be one homework assignment per unit and one test per marking period. The test will be a review of all units covered during the marking period and students should use their homework assignments as review for the test.


Citizenship                  5%
            Students will receive one grade each marking period based on a 0-4 point rubric.  Students should consistently demonstrate sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation. Each quality and ways to demonstrate them daily has been discussed with students. 


4- Student always demonstrates sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation.

3- Student frequently demonstrates sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation.

2- Student sometimes demonstrates sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation.

1- Student rarely demonstrates sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation.

0- Student never demonstrates sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, respect and cooperation.

About Me

I am a graduate of The College at Brockport with a degree in Physical Education. I love sports, especially basketball. I really enjoy being a Physical Education/Health Teacher! I believe that hard work pays off and encourage all of my students to try their best at all times.
